Wednesday, January 13, 2021 - Color: deep violet. Nose: savory, green olive, brine, bay leaves, juniper, slight heat. The aromatic intensity wavered a bit, starting off very closed (I was concerned based on previous comments), opening after 30 minutes, and them seeming to tame after an hour. Palate nicely integrates red/purple fruit tones with the savory elements on the nose. Neither the fruit nor the savory elements dominates---there is a harmony to them. Black peppercorn notes, some heat on the finish (but not on the front of mid palate). I don't notice the same violet or floral notes that others found. Full bodied, light and smooth tannins, acidity seems low but I may be being deceived by the savoriness.

I tried this one day after 2018 Melville Donna's block syrah, and there are clear similarities. Melville also had a savory, briny, olive palate to it, with much more intense salinity and less fruit influence.
