Tuesday, May 5, 2020 - California can't make Chardonnay like this Chablis. It is interesting because the vines have some age on them (label does not say how old, but thusly "les venerables") and grown in chalky-like soil, so in addition to the fruit you have a touch of minerality.
Reminds me of French Chablis I was first introduced to in the early 1980's with that flint and not overly-oaked. The fruit tastes like green apple, but not quite that sour, acidic, austere...but hardly sweet. Everything seemed to be super-balanced and integrated and we surely enjoyed this and are glad we have another bottle, although at 2015-DRINK NOW.
