1996 Château Mouton Rothschild

Friday, June 1, 2018 - This is the fourth time having this vintage of Mouton. It was my least favorite of the four tastings, but it is still utterly delicious. This must have been cellared in a cold cellar because it seems to be on a much slower evolutionary track than my prior tastings. It needs at least a 1-2 hour decant if opening now, but I recommend waiting another 10 years to open it. Classic Pauillac nose, with black fruit, licorice, cedar, anise. The fruit was slightly stewed, which I hadn’t noticed before in prior tastings, but it was not off putting. It is currently in a clunky phase of evolution. Hold.
