Sunday, June 16, 2019 - Dessert for Fathers day 2019; my last bottle of the '70 purchased years ago at auction.

Color: deep, burnished gold edging toward amber. Luscious nose of apricots, toffee, butterscotch and creme brulee. Palate still showing a fair amount of sweetness demonstrating how well these old Sauternes can age. Caramel and brown butter mixed with burnt sugar lend some complexity.

Could there be a bit more? I think yes; this year was renowned for having a paucity of botrytis. It's very good -- delicious in fact. But while I think there was some botrytis at Suduiraut, I think this is showing as a very, very good low-botrytis Sauternes from a good vintage produced from plump, healthy, high-quality grapes. A lovely wine and one I would buy again for the bargain price I paid but perhaps not as complex as other vintages.
