Community Tasting Note

Tuesday, January 30, 2024 - I tried to open the bottle fifteen hours before lunch but the last third of the poor quality cork was firmly stuck to the neck of the bottle so it was necessary to turn to The Durand. Still, the pulverized cork (pictured) left too many particles floating and I decided to filter it and a double decanting while removing fine-grained sediments from the bottom of the bottle. A shame for the winery not to spend a little more on corks. Black core with watery, brown ruby edges. On the nose there are notes of blackcurrants, blackberries, graphite, leather, wet earth, with a classical complexity, Calvinist and austere, without real emotions. On the palate it offers a weak structure, a more watery texture than velvety, a dusty acidity and a merely decent length. In short another bottle of a second GCC wine in a great year. Nothing extraordinary, I'm sorry. Increasingly convinced that second wines in Bordeaux are not built to age.

1/30/2024 7:55:00 AM - Perhaps the bad cork was indicative of poor storage at some point? I had this wine last year and found it to be a very solid for a second wine. Quality varies by producer but RdlC, Dame de Montrose and Clos du Marquis have all proven age worthy for me...

1/30/2024 10:01:00 AM - In my humble opinion dear Yagerwine, of course this bottle was solid in the sense of monolithic, unidimensional, boring even. About a bad storage what can I say? Since 2008 this wine has been laying down in my cellar under controlled temperature and humidity conditions. Anyway that cork wasn't a quality one.
One bottle remaining ready to be actionable. Surely.
    Cheers,
