89 Points

Sunday, April 13, 2008 - For me, it is difficult to know what to expect from a CDP this old. I bought the bottle years ago (upon release), and it has knocked around with me since then. At first, and similar to my experience with other wines of this age, there was very little going on -- thin is not quite the right word, perhaps quiet or subdued. After some time, 30 min plus more time in the glass, the wine opened and was very smooth. Not unusually rich (hence the 89), but very well balanced and integrated. Some spice was certainly there. I am not certain that I needed to wait 30 years for this to occur. My guess is that the wine probably peaked some time ago, although it did not appear to be in dramatic decline. Got to drink 'em eventually.
