Friday, December 20, 2019 - Safeway grocery store Washington State Merlot tasting challenge.: Purchased for a Washington State Merlot Safeway grocery store challenge. A bright ruby in the glass with slow-forming legs, the nose beckons with dark cherry, blueberry, sage, oak spices and alcohol. A slightly bready palate, with ripe plum joining the party, decent acidity with some tobacco and dark chocolate. Industrial production, sure, but decent drinking as usual for Columbia Crest. My local market's $11.99 + tax tariff a bit high.
