86 Points

Saturday, October 2, 2021 - 13.5% alcohol; bottled by Soc. Coop. Vecchia Cantina di Montepulciano Soc. Agr.; Votto Vines Importing, Hamden, Connecticut; medium-weight foil, real cork with maximum wine penetration of 1 mm, cork aroma of sweet/sour cherry and deep heartwood sawn through; nose of fresh strawberries, cherries & grapes; opened, vinturied, and tasted about 20 minutes later at 11 degrees C; medium bodied, strong cherry flavor, moderate tannins, tilted toward sourness and away from sweetness or fruitiness, nestled in a bed of minerals and forest floor; tannins, such as they are, persist into the medium finish, acting almost like an anesthetic on the back of the tongue -- definitely not a New World wine; pair with pasta, pizza, and a variety of other Italian dishes; ps. the two and three day report is very favorable -- the wine holds its own, the finish has improved; I'm adding two points to my original 84.
