Thursday, November 22, 2018 - 13% alcohol. Bottled in a 0,72-liter bottle.

Developed, somewhat translucent and quite dark cherry color with a reddish-orange rim. Aged, quite tertiary and slightly funky nose with aromas of ripe black cherries and blackberry jam, some sweet volatile notes, a little bit of wizened sour cherries, light barnyardy notes of brett, a hint of aged mocha character and a touch of lifted minty notes. The wine is ripe, dense and full-bodied on the palate with complex flavors of wizened dark forest fruits, some leathery notes of brett, a little bit of sweet, almost liqueur-like dark fruit, light funky notes of barnyard, an acetic hint of balsamic VA and a touch of sour cherry bitterness. The wine is impressively structured with its rather high acidity and quite ample tannins that slowly pile up on gums. The finish is juicy, complex and moderately grippy with developed flavors of ripe dark fruits, some wizened dark berries, a little bit of leathery brett, light balsamic notes of VA, a tertiary hint of beef consommé and a touch of sour cherry bitterness.

An impressive powerhouse of a wine for an aged Boca. Although this wine was left in the shadow of the even more impressive Vallana Boca 1964 that was served alongside, this was still an exceptional wine for an Alto Piemonte red and easily among the best Vallana wines I've tasted - by a large margin. While many older Vallana wines are falling apart or even dead by now, this wine was still going very strong and not showing any signs of giving up. Highly recommended.
