2015 Proprietà Sperino Uvaggio

Community Tasting Note

Likes this wine:

Friday, March 1, 2019 - {Tuscany} At lunch today; my highest possible buy recommendation. This begins as Premier Cru, and moves into Grand Cru Burgundy by the second glass - if only because the sheer beauty of these perfumes is so gorgeous, so vivid. Elegance, personified. One of the most stunning noses on any wine in 2019, and I've come across many hundred. Med/Med(-) palate, that will likely add some weight in the passing years. A joy to drink. Alto Piemonte brilliance, wow!

7/22/2019 6:02:00 PM - Does this wine tend to shut down in the cellar? I have to admit that my one bottle (a 2008) was kind of flat and lifeless, about a year ago.

8/9/2019 12:37:00 PM - this is an excellent question. When Uvaggio was born, it was out of tradition. Which is to say, as in the old days, this field blend saw each of its component varieties harvested on the same date - something that overlooks physiological ripeness, etc. However, a few years ago, Luca began to harvest the component grapes at the peak of each of their individual sweet spots, and so today we have a much more structured wine. So, the lifelessness in the '08 ( a solid vintage in the region), is not too unexpected, even if unfortunate.

So, to think this could shut down for a spell, is not out of the question, given the current methodology.
I'll be picking up my 2 6-packs in October, and the plan now is to consume one a year till finished. Early on, i'll prolly give it aeration in decanter - perhaps even a double decant for an hour the night before; over time, more PnP or a splash decant is likely what I'll chose.
I hope this helps, and thank you for your question/comments.

    saluti

9/24/2019 4:50:00 PM - Based on your enthusiasm I went out at considerable pain to my butt and bought 3 bottles. This tasted like 1er cru or GC burg? Really? I gotta try this.
Well, you are so right about this. Never would have thought this was Nebbiolo. And it *is* fantastic, especially at the price. I have a couple of glasses worth left in the bottle to try tomorrow and I will write a review then, but wow is this awesome and unexpected. Incredibly perfumed and rich. Thanks for the recommendation!
