95 Points

Tuesday, February 6, 2024 - Half-bottle. Very tight upon opening, so I decanted the wine for three hours in a small decanter which did the trick. Dark ruby colour. Ripe dark and red fruit, ripe black currant, dark cherry, ripe blackberry, ripe blueberry, kirsch, dark plum, dark chocolate, cocoa, espresso, graphite, cedar, spices, and vanilla, with medium-level acidity, ripe, round tannin, and very good length. Intriguing sweetness from the fruit and the well-integrated oak. Great structure and impressive, almost oily concentration. Wow! The best young Bordeaux I have had in some time.

2/9/2024 11:16:00 PM - I love Pichon Baron when I can get it its a quintessential Pauillac!! Fantastic wine. I am drinking the Thalabert 15 and its a 94/95. Its great value at around 40 Euros here! A la votre!

2/12/2024 8:41:00 AM - I have had a few nice young Bordeaux recently, slowly working through a mixed case of 24 different half bottles of crus classés (mostly from the 2016 to 2020 vintages). 2015 Brane-Cantenac was very accessible and quite beautiful, and 2020 Beausejour Duffau Lagarrosse had impressive structure, concentration and complexity (but needs time). But the 2018 Pichon Baron stood out. It breaks the bank, but I could not help it, I had to get a case and put it into storage.

I have never had the Thalabert. Thank you for mentioning it. Will keep my eyes open.
