Thursday, December 27, 2018 - Really struggled with this on day 1, the rating is for day 2. First of all, did not want to drink this so young but had limited options for Christmas dinner on vacation. Also, we are at altitude and that’s never an ideal wine scenario—I’m not sure if it is our sensory abilities or the wine—probably both. So on day 1 very closed aromatics, really had to work to get anything on the nose. Even after a 2 hour decant. Disjointed on the palate, like the blend had not blended. Very lean. And although it was just fine, not an amazing wine for Christmas dinner.
1/4 of the bottle was left on the table overnight (further testament to our lack of interest in drinking this wine). Corked and fridged it in the morning and tried again in the evening. Really nice aromatics, everything has come together. Plums and cherries and Christmas spice that would have been wonderful the night before. Conclusion—most certainly needs a few more years.
