2016 Figgins Estate Red Wine

Community Tasting Note

Friday, December 31, 2021 - I normally enjoy Figgins but this is the newest vintage I have had. It had the odd flavor of what I normally taste in an inexpensive wine that I believe they do to age them quicker. Never would have thought a Figgins to have this. Drank this with two others and all of us had the same opinion.

Could have been a bad bottle, but didn't have a cork taint taste. We tasted it both PnP and letting it sit out for a couple hours. Was a little better after some time, but not much. This was out of a friends cellar and he had the same opinion. He has another '16 that we are going to try and see if it is better. As I mentioned, there is an odd flavor I pick up that is hard to describe that I usually pick up in more inexpensive, high production, really dark purple/red in color wines wines. My assumption is maybe some kind of additive to make it more drinkable young (now), or maybe some kind of color additive (Big Purple?).
The friend I was with, who I taste with regularly, now picks up on this as well and he agreed this Figgins had it which surprised both of us. We drink Figgins and Leonetti somewhat regularly (nothing this young yet) and have never picked this up before.
Hoping it was a bad bottle and not something being used in the newer Figgins or Leonettis. He picked up this bottle directly at the tasting room in Walla Walla was kept in a large wine cooler until drank.
