Monday, March 11, 2024 - [Tasted Double Blind] This pours deep ruby in the glass with light bricking. The nose is rich and extracted in a clearly classical napa valley style. Aromas are of black currant, blackberry, pencil lead, cigar ash, fire pit, charred wood, a touch of eucalyptus and a whisp of mint. Definitely some paulliac vibes combined with touches of mint and eucalyptus, pointing to classic Napa Cab. The palate is densely structured with extracted black currant and ripe blackberry notes on entry. Tannin is medium minus and acid is medium. The Finish lingers nicely replaying much of the nose. I thought this was clearly an old Napa Cab from a classic producer and a 'bigger' vintage. I wondered about something from the late 70s. Really nice showing from this 1985. I usually prefer something more open knit, less dense and darkly fruit but I found some nice appeal here.
