Likes this wine:

Sunday, April 26, 2020 - This wine was a real study in changes. We opened it the night before and decanted for 5 hours before drinking. Even with that it was prob still on the tight side when we first had it. I appreciated the balance here between fruit and some other aspects (mostly get like a gravely road). By the time I tried it maybe 10 hours into the decant it was very intense baking spices. The darkness had blown off a bit and the power was actually more upfront than it had been earlier. Needs a lot of time.

I only picked up a couple and am considering buying more.
    Your thoughts are appreciated!

4/27/2020 10:02:00 AM - I'm going to give an awful answer - I think it very much depends upon what you mean by a 'great wine'. I think it is a well made wine that will age well. It's a good Napa wine. I don't know if it's an epiphany wine (one of those wines where you have it and it changes the way you perceive wine and maybe shows you a side you haven't seen before). For my tastes it needs a lot of time (like 25 years), but I also know that there's many who enjoy the Napa style younger (more in the 8-10 range). I generally like Las Piedras as a vineyard, but it's been awhile since I've had wines from there so I'm struggling to compare this one versus others from there. How do you define a great wine? What do you like in a wine? When do you want to be able to drink it? Do you like a lot of age or do you find a sweet spot earlier? If it's a bolder style is that good or bad or it depends? I think all of those are good inputs to whether or not to buy more.
