Saturday, July 9, 2016 - Dinner at home with Lionel and Rachel (Pine Close): A yummy, beautifully drinkable wine. After an hour or so in the decanter, this was absolutely singing. On the nose, it showed pretty notes of sweet, ripe cassis and red berries seasoned with drifts of tobacco spice, earth and wild herbs. The palate seemed on its way to being completely resolved, with soft, round tannins and bright acidity framing yummy flavours of ripe cassis and gummy berries, again with a flush of baking spices and smoky tobacco notes lingering away in a nice, juicy finish. No one would accuse this of being a Bordeaux with its sweet, sunny disposition, but it was far from being a new world bruiser - it was elegant, comfortable and absolutely delicious; a lovely wine at a beautiful place now.
