92 Points

Monday, June 18, 2012 - 30 minute decant. If you could gene sequence a perfect Barossa shiraz and then build it into a bottle of wine then this would be pretty close. Extremely big, rich and ripe fruit underpinned by a fine layer of tannins supporting a complex multi-layer structure. Extremely clean dark fruit, quality oak and an extremely glossy finish and mouth feel. Every facet is totally seemless.

If you are looking at this as a pedigree example of its kind you cannot fault it and it would win all the rosettes in the show. However there is the impression that this is so highly polished that even the smallest blemish sticks out like a sore thumb. But there aren't any. Objectively faultless, subjectively it feels just a little over-engineered and lacks some charisma. If you like to score on technical ability and outright quality it is hard to not to look towards 100. If you prefer a bit of excitement, character and personaity it's 90 at best. It's like a copy of the Mona Lisa with all the wrinkles removed. Certainly impressive
