95 Points

Sunday, March 13, 2016 - Dark purple red in appearance with a phenomenal and complex nose of dark red and blue fruits, menthol, peppery spice and a bit of cola. This wine is medium full, fresh candied fruits, rich but not overly thick or viscous whatsoever as in my previous experiences in 2013 & 2010 with this wine. The flavor profile ranges from young dark red and blue fruits, black pepper, a trace of freshly cut coriander and an inky, graphite finish that lingers on and on with hardly any impressions vanilla oak this time around. This top-notch Barossa Shiraz is drinking extremely well now and much more silky and refined than when I last tried it back in 2013. However the only flaw that I noticed then and now is the noticeable heat which is a bit excessive for my liking. In short, a wonderful and lively old-vine Aussie Shiraz with much power and elegance.
