Thursday, November 17, 2022 - Two hour decant. Very deep dark magenta color. Black raspberry, cassis, pine needles, cinnamon graham cracker, spicy chocolate, and orange rind on the nose. Smooth, dry, spicy, full bodied palate. Firm, full tannins on the longish finish.

Terrific opening wine for the start of a fun wine weekend in Naples, FL with my good friends Mark (Mark1NPT) and Carol. This is truly in it’s drinking window at this point, but certainly needs the decant.

2/2/2023 8:35:00 AM - Thanks for the note! I've got a sole bottle, and so am looking for the best time to drink. Certainly the wine can age a bit, but sounds like it's in the drinking window! Not the biggest fan of aging Carter, as it drinks well on the young side. I had a few 2013 Hossfeld Colliseum's bought from a local store and 1 was excellent, 1 was as expected (very good), and 1 was disappointing. All were stored on wine racks in the store with ambient heat, so storage could have been an issue--could also be bottle variation compounded by age. At any rate, thanks for the note!!
