2019 Clos Mogador Priorat Gratallops

Thursday, February 2, 2023 - Dark red nearly purple. A floral nose at first of violets giving way to spices with more time in the glass. After 15 minutes the aromas conjured scorched earth and herbs. Classic Priorat notes throughout. Concentrated red fruits with spices like fennel and thyme dialed up. Full bodied but still sharp, with acidity standing it upright or maybe that’s just a mild licorella twang. Ultra smooth drinking indicative of the blend - Cabernet and Syrah supplementing and rounding out the Garnacha and Carinena. Hard hitting tannins from the start. Can’t detect the oak so it’s well-integrated. After 30 minutes it’s a real spice bomb on the nose. Super; met high expectations.
