Sunday, January 1, 2017 - Opened 2 hours but not decanted. Nose of prunes and smoke/oak. Frankly the nose was a big "eh". The palate is far more interesting. The fruit is ripe but not overly so. The fruit tones seem brighter and less pruney. There is certainly an element of earth here, and balanced oak as well. Raspsberry jam and cedar, and acidity to be useful at the table. There is still a tannic edge, so consider that going forward.
