95 Points

Sunday, September 18, 2016 - During a Gaja 2004 merchant tasting. Medium light garnet. Expressive nose of chocolate, mint, cake, pine. Excellent nose. A touch lighter and more elegant than the Sperss and Costa Russi, more in the style of the Sori Tildin structurally. However, this has the edge over the Sori Tildin with regards to complexity and length. A touch dry on the finish preventing a higher score, but then again were are drinking Nebbiolo... A general note: The fragrance of all the 2004 Gaja's are top class, I am just not so sure on the tannin management. You could argue to wait another 10 years but then Nebbiolo does get oxidative faster than CabSav. And when I look at the Bordeaux 1986 today, the tannins are gone, but so is the fruit.
