Tuesday, February 14, 2023 - The Inaugural Paris Wine Event (Papies at Passy, Paris): A good 5 years since we had this ( Papies 94) and happy to see that time and evolution have made this even better. Testament to its greatness is that it overshadowed the poor 1996 Togni ( Papies 94) from start to finish . A good hour of decant was beneficial albeit the nose was singing from the pop of the cork.
Soft wine, effortlessly elegant and harmonious, well assimilated elements, soft fruit, light smoky kiss on the finish. The nose is open from the start and really sings. Earthy element too and frankly no need to go on here. We always say Sassicaia challenges for the title of the best Italian red and experiences like this only cement it further. 96-97 and with an easy decade of beautiful life ahead.
