97 Points

Friday, September 24, 2021 - Tasted at Heron House. This was easily the WOTN (or day?) from the tasting that included other wonderful labels such as the 2019 Perchance Estates Cab.

The decant on this one was under an hour, but it already showed a massive boquet of red and blue fruits. The wine was incredibly balanced, great structure, and a kiss of oak that imparted a wonderful vanilla note that was remarkable. The wine was still very primary and fruit forward, but should settle in very nicely with some age.

This wine was on another level and made the purchasing decision very easy. While Mike Smith wines typically show well early on, this wine was open for business in a way I've never seen with his other wines at this stage. I think the upside on this wine brings it very close to a three-digit score, but for now, an easy 97pts.
