Likes this wine:

Sunday, May 14, 2023 - I consumed this on the eve of some bad news at work (layoff--med device sector), so I wanted to open something nice that had been taunting me from the cellar. Despite a 3 hour decant, this wine is not ready. Primary dark fruit on the nose, but nowhere near yielding the full package. Short finish turning tart.

This is not a knock on Rivers Marie, or Thomas Rivers Brown, I love their wines. I think the pieces are there, but need to meld together. I appreciated the others' review of this wine, but I'll be cellaring my remaining bottles for at least a year or two. The future is bright!

With that said a young 2018 Herb Lamb was sure good when I opened it on the young side (December 2020, if I remember correctly).

5/15/2023 3:28:00 AM - So sorry about your bad news…I am sure there will be a silver lining/opportunity that results eventually. Meanwhile, I’m surprised the ‘19 was less open than the ‘18. I have only tasted the ‘19 at the winery and I remember it was drinkable but needed time. Hope you find an even better bottle to celebrate new beginnings!!

5/17/2023 9:35:00 AM - Thanks very much for your kind note! I've got an interview tomorrow, as well as one Monday so things are picking up, and hopefully one will work out. Yes---certainly there will be celebratory bottles in the future! Frankly, my palate may have been messed up due to stress, but I think the wine may have been better presented at the winery during your visit. I think this will have great aging potential, and looking forward to trying a bottle in the fall or winter! I have had better luck with 2019s in general, but I think some of the 18s are starting to open up! I just wish I hadn't consumed my 2016s so quickly!

5/19/2023 3:27:00 AM - Same here on the ‘16s although all of them aren’t holding up as well as I had hoped. There do seem to be some good early drinking ‘19s and the 18s are just starting to come around (although I moved many to my offsite to avoid my repeated drinking and disappointment!!)
Good luck with all the interviews!!!
