Saturday, September 16, 2023 - I have to agree with about the last 5 notes or so regarding this 2019….cherry…smooth tannins…a little bit earthy…(confession, I did think a bit green/ herbal right after opening, but that note dissipated as it aired out). I think RPHC nailed it, also the several remarks regarding QPR. It’s so difficult to find a reliable Cabernet under $25 that isn’t “muddy”, unstructured, or seems rather “manufactured”. This wine delivers year after year. It is not a great wine, their Clos Apalta is though. But, for consistency, decent structure, and good QPR, it delivers. I’ve had a Cuvée Alexandre bottling or three for 26 consecutive years since their beginning in 1994. The early years were Merlot, but the last 2/3 have been the Cabernet. All from the Apalta vineyard. And that’s why we get the same good stuff year after year I believe.
