Saturday, December 27, 2008 - Off the list for $85 at Lotus of Siam in Las Vegas. I paid $60 plus shipping to buy the exact same wine from the winery. 'Nuf said about a great restaurant pricing policy. This is a sublimely delicious wine. There were four of us but I got just one glass because one of our guests was a chardonnay lover and devoured this wine. White fruit predominates with creamy soft vanilla, floral notes and some kumquat/mandarin orange citrus in the background. There's pear and some white peach along with chardonnay grape flavor. Excellent balance and a long finish. Kerry Murphy told me a few years ago that he was aiming for a more Burgundian style of chardonnay than the more common CA style. I think it would be fair to say he straddles a middle ground. No wood chips and no sweet syrupy vanilla a la pop culture CA chardonnay.
