Monday, December 28, 2009 - Pop and pour, enjoyed over a couple of hours. This wine was most remarkable for its texture and construction. The rather reticent nose alluded to charcoal, game and brambles; but the finish and mouthfeel were the stars here. It was like drinking some hyper-concentrated concoction of velvet and blackberry liquor, yet it was completely devoid of heat and almost ethereal on the finish. Absolutely perfect balance of alcohol, acidity, tannin and fruit. There wasn’t a single component that could be isolated. Dark plums, and a woodsy spice repeats on an insanely long and creamy finish. With better planning, I would’ve decanted at least a couple of hours to coax a bit more from the nose.
