Wednesday, December 3, 2003 - Ruby red color. Sweet, strong aromas of redcurrant, vanilla, chocolate, leather, apricot and what might resemble a little port. Full body, with concentrated flavors of some prunes, ripe fruit, pepper, licorice and little carob. Reasonable acidity, but lacking balance. The wine seems to have lost its fruitiness (or maybe just lacks it, though I believe this wine was a lot more fruity in the past), and has mouthful of tannins and oak that are too dominating and noticeable. Medium to long finish, with a heavy peaty aftertaste. Overall, the wine seems to have reached its peak, or possibly just past, and though I have only had the 95 and 99, Clos Mogador seems to shine at a much earlier age. I am hoping the 90, 91, 93 and 94 I have might change my mind.
