97 Points

Thursday, August 17, 2023 - Wow, the hype is real. My first time with this producer. This is now the fifth wine I've rated 97, the highest rating I've given so far, out of around 1,200 mostly distinct bottles on CT over the last number of years. Essentially perfect for my palate, even at this early stage, and excellent QPR for the quality IMO, even with the high price (we got it for around $100.) No decant, enjoyed over a number of hours.

Explosive, but not heavy or rich at all- the laser beam kind of focused nose that really painted a vivid picture. Smelled so much like fresh, ripe strawberries and cream over biscuits, that kind of perfectly balanced pink fruit and extremely subtle oak, but eaten at a picnic in a coastal pine forest, with that bright conifer and salty sea air billowing around. Those tiny whole cluster nuances were so beautifully integrated, very clear, and absolutely never in the way. The nose felt very deeply pitched but still brightly colored, if that makes sense. Some beautiful hints of flowers too, roses, etc. The kind of nose that I could just huff all day.

The palate really followed suit, a burst of gently weighty pure strawberry and bright earthy/floral shades, fresh and invigorating with lively, breezy acidity. This aspect was also incredibly well integrated, vibrant, but never once puckery or tart. There's some gentle structure, already very fine-grained, certainly capable of aging, but not needing it. The finish was another real highlight, as the fruit faded- making room for this dark, stony kind of minerality, almost like petrichor, that was mostly hidden on the nose. So crystalline and refreshing. Just wow.
