Friday, September 9, 2022 - Well I have to say that, in the absence of more expert tasting reviews, this was a genuine delight that I could not fully anticipate.

The designation of a Bassolino di Sopra is a high threshold and in the absence of pointers coming from critics’ reviews I felt I should open a bottle and try it.

The tasting was very reassuring - and let me say, life enhancing. Quality begets quality. I opened my first bottle of the 2015 today - probably too soon for the “wine aging” purists - to be rewarded by all of the characteristics I had experienced with the 2012 and 2010, vintages. Production levels are purposely low.

This wine, for me, defines the beauty and elegance of the more delicate expressions of a Brunello di Montalcino. Refined, fruit forward and supremely elegant. Relatively pricey - but unequivocally worth the experience.

Grab it while you can. In my opinion this is a benchmark wine and ready to be drunk.
