86 Points

Saturday, October 4, 2014 - Medium garnet color, heavy sedimentation. Nose of tar, leather, cranberry, garrigue, hints of coconut (!) and the receding end of a horse. On arrival, soft tannin and medium acidity. The gentle sauvage lash of VA pushes forth what little remains from the vineyards' fruit, and of the effects of long age: smoked meat, red fruits, apple cider. Finishes OK. Disappointing perhaps in terms of bottle age, producer reputation, scarcity and thirty years of anticipation, nonetheless this is wine worth the the time to savor for its typicite alone. Bottle #3 of three.
