Friday, February 23, 2024 - This is my 300th unique bottle of champagne while also being my 700th tasting note here on CellarTracker!

So it had to be something special and this bottle certainly was. 100% Pinot Meunier from the lieu-dit 'La Motelle', both his own grapes and some of the neighbors, from the 2019 vintage. 24 hour maceration on the skins, 11 months in oak and 5,176 bottles made.

The color on this is absolutely insane. Such a deep and intense red color with a kind of orange-brick mixed in. Stunning and beautifully small and aggressive bubbles.

The nose really gives me some Beaujolais vibes. At the first glance this doesn't strike me as a champagne at all. Lots of red berries; raspberry, forest strawberry, cranberry, redcurrant, red cherry and some blackberry as well. A touch of grapefruit or blood orange and then there's an earthiness with wood, mushroom, smoke and something herbal coming up as well.

The palate is really the true star of this champagne. It actually feels more deep, complex and powerful than a lot of Beaujolais does... This is just truly my kind of rosé champagne - really more like a light sparkling red wine than most rosé champagnes!
It's again the raspberry, forest strawberry, cranberry, redcurrant and red cherry that are in focus, but blackberry, dark cherry, blood orange and grapefruit zest really add an extra dimension. Really like a lush, light and elegant red wine.
There's also really a depth and complexity coming from both earthiness with forest floor, herbs, oak, yeast and like a smoked bacon kind of note. Really gives even more power and richness to the already red wine-like feeling. What really then takes it apart is the perfectly integrated acidity and extreme saline minerality that is only found in this region...

This Rosé is truly something special and I rank it as highly as the Ulysse Collin Saignée - though I think I actually like this one from Brochet just a tad bit more!

Cheers to many more new bottles of champagne and even more tasting notes on CellarTracker.
