1978 Château Latour Grand Vin

Community Tasting Note

Saturday, May 16, 2015 - My birthday wine. Brought to French Laundry and endured $150 corkage. At first the damp basement nose put us off, not being accustomed to old Bordeaux. Sommelier insisted it was in good shape. It grew on us and the two of us finished the bottle. Had typical Bordeaux fruit and herbs beneath the moldiness.

3/5/2016 9:00:00 AM - A patron bringing a wine like this should be considered an honor for any restaurant. $150 is a ridiculous corkage. That is also saying a lot about what they expect to make from you when you order from their list. I simply would not go to such a place. Where l live I almost never get charged corkage when I give the maitre d a taste or send a taste to the chef. I am planning to drink my last bottle of this next week.
