Thursday, August 24, 2023 - I am a big fan of Falkenstein's Rieslings so I was really excited to try their Spätburgunder. I get that 2021 is a cold vintage with electric acid, and I love that in their Rieslings, but I don't feel the fruit in this wine can really keep up. It smells like super underripe red fruit and some herbs. The aromatic intensity lacks the intensity of the palate, which bombards you with acid and no sugar for respite. I left it open for a few days to see if it would calm down and it hardly changed at all. This really is a wine only for the most dedicated acid freaks.
