Sunday, November 11, 2018 - This is always a heavy type of Chianti, more similar to Brunello than ordinary Chianti. 2004 is no exception, but it is marked by the less than top-notch vintage. Wonderful aroma dominated by tertiary notes: tea, tobacco, dried cherries, some camphor/mentholate. Full bodied, lots of sweet fruit in the attack. The fruit soon gives way to drier tones reminiscent of tea. The wine has clearly lost fruit, and the dry tones dominate. Long, dry aftertaste with a streak of alcohol. Better with food (we had it with grilled chicken, and the fruit came out quite nice), but should probably have been drunk 3-5 years ago. Nice experience, though.
