Friday, September 8, 2023 - Tasted at the winery after a detailed tour of the facilities and a short discussion with both lead winemaker Thomas Savre and the assistant winemaker despite a busy day of picking and winemaking. Every indication is that since the Constellation Brands acquisition they have been allowed to continue with their long term plan and been able to invest in some new facilities/vineyards including a new tasting room in the near future.
As I understand the winemaking for the Pinot Noirs, they are foot treaded in large wooden open top fermenters and are aged in both concrete and a mix of new and older more neutral oak. This wine is 20% whole cluster fermented and aged in ~23% new French oak. Nose is very perfumed, floral and lightly jammy. Palate is well structured with medium+ acidity and tannin. Bright red fruited, baking spices and mineral notes. Very long finish. This is one for the cellar and will likely improve more with proper cellaring. Needs significant aeration now. This could be a stunner…
