Saturday, December 23, 2023 - Unbelievable!!! Leon Salesse is a negociant. The bottle is in excellent condition, with 4 cm of ullage. Cork removed in one piece with Durand. It was not decanted. Dark ruby color, vivid in the center and progressively brownish towards the edges. Good nose, with wet earth, sweet pepper, coffee. In the mouth it is balanced, with still striking acidity and a discreet volatility. Tertiary characteristics predominate, earth, mushrooms, pepper, a touch of black fruits, all in balance. Tannins resolved, but still present, silky. What is most impressive is the combination of refinement and persistence, difficult to believe in a village Burgundy wine that is almost 80 years old. No apparent signs of addition of other wines in this case, which was relatively common at this time. Drink immediately after opening for 3 hours without loss of initial quality. 1945 is possibly the most reliable and resilient of old Burgundy vintages to drink today. Recommended if you can find it
