Sunday, November 29, 2020 - Mature but not yet over the hill. Needed a good 2 hours to fully open. Dark fruits developed after starting out as tart dried cherries. Now, black currant, ripe plum, some jam nicely meld with the Smokey gravel, black licorice, toast, and hot asphalt. The palate is rich smooth and very well balanced with the exception of some alcohol heat that drives the Smokey dark fruited long finish. I picture the 2003 evolving akin to the 89, although I suspect there is more merlot in the 03, no? 92-93
