Friday, December 21, 2012 - Drank two bottles at dinner -- both were purchased at auction from single owner who purchased at release. Bottles were in great shape, base neck ullage, good clarity, corks intact and less than halfway saturated. Decanted first bottle for one hour, second bottle for 2.5 hours. Nose was great -- very Bordeaux-like with cedar, tobacco, earth, and very faint black and red fruits. However, the wine was thin, mid-palate underwhelming, and finish with a weird, tangy volatile acidity that just wouldn't go away. Nursed these bottles/glasses over many hours, but the wine just faded. Strange given some older Monte Bellos I've had that were wonderful and given others seem to have had better recent tastings...
