1995 Seavey Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

Friday, January 1, 2021 - Had next to Anderson's CVV '95 Estate Cab for New Year's day steak dinner the Seavey was the clear winner showing little signs of age. The cork was firm and came out clean with an Ah So, mostly just stained at the tip. Decanted about 30 minutes to remove sediment this drank great from the first glass and showed no sign of fading over 5 hours. The color is still reddish purple with only a hint of browning at the rim. Some dark fruit on the nose dominated by cigar and cedar. Full bodied and rich on the palate with many layers of red and dark fruits and a long finish with round tannins, mint and licorice. Really remarkable how well this is drinking at age 26. One more left which I will wait at least a few more years on, maybe open at year 30.

1/3/2021 4:33:00 AM - I am always amazed by how well these Napa cabs from the 90s are drinking. I buy the Mondavi reserve whenever I see it and it is always drinking well and still has so much life to it!! I don’t think our Myriad’s will be hanging on for 25 years...

1/3/2021 6:08:00 AM - Jen - I agree these '90s have been great and Seavey seems to have the stuffing to last. I also have some Mondavi from the 90's and early 00's that have been very good but had an '87 recently that had lost its oomph. I still pick up a couple bottles per vintage of Mondavi Reserve, BV GdL, Insignia, etc to keep verticals going. Had a very nice '14 GdL for Christmas dinner, they're still making excellent classic Napa wines and at around $100 not a bad deal!

1/7/2021 5:07:00 AM - This is great news as I have a few 1995's remaining. I just had the 1999 Seavey and our experience was the same as the one you described. Wines built for the long haul.
