90 Points

Sunday, March 8, 2009 - Day 1: Equally dark in color as the 2005. Nose is much more fruit forward than the 2005, and much less earth and leather as well. This is 90% raspberry and 10% leather. On the palate, sweet raspberry fruit is front and center, and while the earth comes up, not nearly as forward as the 2005. More acidity than the 2005 also. A touch bitter on the finish, making me think this could benefit from another year or two of bottle age to come around. I would hold this for another year or two. Vacuum sealed for further tasting.

Day 3: Still a good dose of sweet fruit on the nose. Just a hint of leather now. Taste has fallen off, and lost a lot of that forward raspberry fruit it had a couple days ago. Finish is quite bitter now. Definitely not as enjoyable on day 3 as the 2005 was. Perhaps the extra year in bottle made the difference?
