Friday, May 11, 2012 - For a non-vintage vin de table, this is decent quality, quaffable stuff. Picked it up in early March and now drinking it just over two months later. It doesn't have a big nose, but it has a pleasing blueberry-floral aroma with a touch of generic spice. It has a bigger taste than anticipated. Lots of brambly fruit, with bits of blueberry, cranberry and luscious, sweet cherry, although the sweetness faded significantly after about an hour. What makes this quite interesting is the pronounced presence of earth, pepper, and bitter chocolate, along with a savoury finish. Roger Sabon makes lovely Chateauneuf du Pape, so it's great to see they also invest care into their everyday wine. The catch is it drank much better on the first night than it did on the second.
