90 Points

Friday, January 14, 2011 - Very intense nose - perfectly ripe red and dark berries, coffee bean, and a hint of vanilla. Also picked up some smoky herbal notes underneath the fruit. Just slightly jammy on the palate with luscious briary dark fruit mixed with some chocolate shavings and leather. Nice structure, but tannins were a little bitter on the medium finish. I definitely need to try other Ridge bottlings as I think this wine is solid but suffers a bit from the rough vintage. I do get a sense of the refined Zin approach that the winery seems to take.
