Thursday, February 18, 2021 - 15.0% abv. My bottle had wax under foil capsule; cork was sound and dry. Yellow gold color. Alcohol on nose, followed by beeswax, apple, tropical fruits, raw oats, burlap. Med+ weight and mouthfeel - viscous texture. Starts dry, coats palate with glycerin that hints of sweetness, but transitions to dry finish that manages decent level of tension and salinity. Palate is vibrant and fresh but disappointingly homogenous, perhaps fighting the high alcohol? This wine still has tannins and backbone to develop further if bottle stored well. 1998 was an OK, not exceptional, year in Alsace, this shows that IMO.
