90 Points

Sunday, June 3, 2007 - Sunday lunch and blind Pinot Noir Tasting (Palazzo di Doug e Jeanette): Youthful, ruby. Not much intensity on the nose to start, but evolved with time in the glass giving light fruit, spiciness and balsamic notes. Much more intense on the palate, with big fruit, earth and minerality; nice acidic zing; fairly high level of youngish tannins; alcohol declared as 14.3%; but all well-balanced. Complex and long. Obviously a high quality wine, but needs more age. Because it was clearly New World and I liked it so much, I guessed Cabbage Tree. First time tasting a Beaux Freres. Thanks to Loren S who gave it to me when he was in Rome last year (or was it the year before?). In 2nd place.
