Sunday, April 26, 2020 - In the nose warm earthiness, cedar, blackberries, cassis and the typical warm herbal touch I associate with Stellenbosch. On the palate cherries, blackberries, well-integrated but a little woody oak with some fine vanilla and cedar. Slight alcohol heat but no problem at all.
Decent length with delicious tobacco tones and lapsang suchong in the aftertaste. Ripe, sweet fruit without being jammy with fine tannins.
Old-school South Africa with an extra dose of herb and heat on an otherwise classic Bordeaux structure. Very enjoyable, well developed but still some good vigour and freshness in the sweet fruit and a brilliant companion to the club steak with red wine sauce.
