Friday, November 27, 2009 - Chateauneauf du Pape does Australia, and well, but "pas typique" and I, for one, am not convinced. This bottle is a textbook example of a wine that was made from overripe fruit. Nearly black, powerful nose (complex, already showing musk, meat, and spice aromas) and palate (black fruits, kirsch), yet alcohol is too high, the wine doesn't knit together very well, aggressive and a bit harsh. People who love power for its own sake will love this wine. The impression is relatively positive -- satin on the mouth, and interesting. Yet raw intensity can be a flaw, and in that sense, this is a flawed wine. Not bad; I enjoyed drinking it, but not a wine I would buy more of.
