Tuesday, July 26, 2011 - Notes of plum, blueberry pie, cigar box, graphite, tar, and with some air, black licorice. This has tightly-wound cassis flavors, acidic and wound very tight, with fine-teethed tannins and a long, detailed finish. Tastes like a young St. Estephe, classic left bank style, at least five years from being ready to drink. Having said that, this is maybe a shade light, at least in tannin and body, compared to the Monte Bellos I've had, and may drink on the early side for this wine (but in any event, it needs five years, minimum). Still, this is compelling stuff: graceful and sleek, with terrific purity of fruit.
