94 Points

Monday, December 12, 2016 - Dinner with Carol N at Charlie Palmer's in DC. Two bottles from my cellar, this one and a 99 Pavie. 99 is a milestone year for my friend. Both decanted for about an hour, drank over 90 minutes. First bottle from a batch bought at auction a few years back (when Verite was more affordable...)

Deep purple/ruby color, no real signs of age. This is a classic Verite...California meets the Right Bank. Nose showing dark fruits, tobacco and graphite. Palate is silky smooth, red fruits, black currants, tobacco, and truffles...softened and sweet tannins. Long a sophisticated finish. The plush texture shows the Merlot content in this wine (fun to drink next to Merlot driven Pavie). Elegant and drinking close to full maturity...great stuff, should go for a while if wanting to hold but why wait...:)
